In a challenging encounter at Cottam Hall, Poulton faced off against Hurst Green in a highly anticipated West Lancashire Premier League clash. Despite a spirited effort, Poulton succumbed to a disappointing 4-0 defeat against a formidable Hurst Green side. The match started with both teams displaying intensity and determination. Hurst Green thought they had taken the lead in the 21st minute, only to have their celebrations halted as the goal was disallowed for offside, much to the relief of the Poulton faithful. Mitch Cheetham and Max Landless spearheaded the offensive efforts, each having fantastic opportunities to break the deadlock in the opening minutes. However, despite their valiant attempts, they were unable to convert their chances, keeping the match level. However, Hurst Green soon found their rhythm and broke the deadlock in the 24th minute, taking a 1-0 lead. Poulton’s defense was breached again just three minutes later, with Hurst Green extending their lead to 2-0. In an attempt to turn the tide, Poulton made a tactical substitution in the 28th minute, with Dominik Gil replacing Irving Dorman. Despite creating chances, Poulton failed to find the back of the net before halftime, with Max Landless’s attempt going wide in the 36th minute and Mitch Cheetham’s shot being saved in the 37th minute. The second half saw Poulton make further changes, with Dan Smith replacing Kris Stephens in the 50th minute. Unfortunately, Poulton suffered a setback when Mitch Cheetham, who had been instrumental in the first half, was forced off due to injury in the 52nd minute, with Jarred Bain coming on as his replacement. Hurst Green maintained their momentum, scoring a third goal in the 61st minute, putting Poulton at a significant disadvantage. Despite their plea for a penalty in the 68th minute after a corner incident in the box, Poulton’s chances were dashed. As the match progressed, Poulton made further substitutions in an attempt to spark a comeback, with Andy Harvie replacing Ryan Charnley in the 74th minute and Fin Topping coming on for Andy Bartholomew in the 84th minute. However, it was Hurst Green who sealed the victory with a fourth goal in the 80th minute. Looking ahead, Poulton will aim to bounce back in their next fixture against Lostock St Gerards on Tuesday evening at Cottam Hall. The team will be determined to put in a strong performance and secure a positive result as they continue their campaign in the West Lancashire Premier League.
