Poulton FC welcomed Tintwistle Athletic to Cottam Hall on a sunny Saturday, July 20th, 2024 for our penultimate pre-season friendly.

First Half:

The match began with both teams looking to get the ball down and play. However, the visitors took the lead in the 13th minute, catching our defence off guard. Despite the early setback, Poulton FC quickly regrouped and began to find their rhythm.

In the 32nd minute, Poulton’s persistence paid off when Mitch Cheetham found the back of the net, levelling the score at 1-1. Our joy was short-lived, however, as Tintwistle was awarded a penalty just two minutes later. The visitors converted, putting them ahead 1-2. They extended their lead further in the 41st minute, leaving us 1-3 down at halfitme.

Second Half:

The second half kicked off and there was a notable change in intensity from the Poulton boys. Within a minute of the restart Callum Dickinson scored, narrowing the deficit to 2-3. This goal rejuvenated our squad and the home crowd, setting the stage for a compelling half of football.

Poulton FC maintained pressure, and our efforts bore fruit in the 76th minute when Mitch struck again, bringing us level at 3-3.

Just three minutes later, Callum completed the turnaround, scoring his second of the day and giving Poulton a 4-3 lead. Our defence held firm for the remainder of the match, securing a well-deserved victory.

Conclusion:

This match was a testament to the team’s resilience and fighting spirit. Despite trailing by two goals at halftime, Poulton FCs determination saw us overturn the deficit and emerge victorious. Mitch and Callum were standout performers, each contributing crucial goals to ensure our comeback.

As we prepare for the upcoming season, this win is a positive indicator of what’s to come. Manager, Dale Azzopardi, was pleased with the performance saying, “That was a good test against a team who like to keep possession of the football. Even at 1-3 down we were still in the game. The lads stuck to our philosophy and got their deserved rewards”.
