Poulton FC begin their preparations this weekend as the first team are back in action at Cottam Hall for a 3pm kick off against Endmoor KGR. We caught up with Poulton manager John Wigglesworth to hear his thoughts on pre-season so far and the plans ahead for this season. “I’m very excited with the talent we’ve recruited this season, not just in the first team but also in our reserves. The reserve set up and continuity is a fundamental project here at Poulton and myself and Ethan [Reserve Team Manager] have worked tirelessly in recruiting specifically to ensure the development and feeder for the first team remains a strong network for many years to come. Numbers have been terrific for training and I’m looking forward to watching this journey develop.” “In the first team we’ve kept ourselves fit, sharp and behind the scenes we’ve strengthened in areas that now allow us to play our key players in their strongest positions this season. I’m very happy with the players that have signed and those retained. It’s now time to knuckle down and work on implementing our plans for this season.” Asked about Wigglesworth’s plans for this season, he had this to say: “Our chairman, Beas, really hit the nail on the head when he said a few words to the squads in his annual pre-season address – in that Poulton has been a sleeping giant for many years now. It is now the responsibility of these talented and highly capable lads to wake that sleeping giant up. Most know my standards are always high and with that targets, but I think it’s important that’s the case as pushing limits is really where potential is hit and success gained. Very confident.” Get down to show your support for the lads as they start the 2025/26 pre-season campaign. Whilst the bar/cafe will unfortunately not be available due to a function, The Bull in Poulton is a great place to grab a post-match refreshment with the club.
