In their penultimate match of the season, Poulton FC faced Rossendale at the Marl Pitts stadium.

In a largely uneventful first half, both teams were demonstrating the effects of a congested fixture schedule and a long Bank Holiday weekend. With both teams unable to muster any momentum or create any real chances, the half time score was 0-0.

However, the second half saw Rossendale FC take the initiative as they found the breakthrough after Poulton were slow to close down a loose ball. The Poulton players began to visibly tire and Rossendale capitalised on their momentum , scoring two further goals in quick succession.

In an attempt to inject fresh energy into the team, Poulton FC made strategic substitutions. Danny Morris made way for Rob Douglas, while Mitch Cheetham was replaced by Will Andrew, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to change the result and the game ended 3-0.

Despite the defeat, there was a standout performer for Poulton FC in the form of Adam Ridings, who was awarded the Player of the Match. Dale Azzopardi, commenting on Ridings’ performance, said, “After a gruelling couple of weeks, Rids still managed to display his sharpness and agility by pulling off some first-class saves.”

The players can now have a week of rest before playing their final game of the season against local rivals, Wren Rovers.
