A hard-fought battle ends in frustration as Poulton FC Reserves lose by a single goal at Cottam Hall

On a cool afternoon at Cottam Hall, Poulton FC Reserves faced off against local rivals Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves in what was always expected to be a tense and hard-fought battle. With pride and bragging rights on the line, the atmosphere was charged as both teams took to the pitch.

The first half started with both sides showing attacking intent, but it was Blackpool Wren Rovers who found the breakthrough in the 27th minute. A well-worked move from their midfield split our defence, and despite our efforts to close down the attack, they slotted the ball past our keeper to take a 0-1 lead.

We responded with determination, pushing forward in search of an equalizer, but our chances were thwarted by a well-organized Wren Rovers defence. Despite some promising plays and pressure towards the end of the half, we went into the break trailing by one goal.

In the second half, manager Danny Morris made key changes, bringing on Ryan Charnley and Lenny Groves in the 56th minute for Jordan Bullen and Jack Roper. The fresh legs injected some energy into the side as we pressed forward in search of a goal. Charnley made an immediate impact, linking up well with the midfield, while Groves added more pace to our attack.

However, despite our efforts, we struggled to find a way past the Blackpool Wren Rovers defence. Several shots on goal either went wide or were saved by their keeper. Our backline stood firm to prevent further damage, but the lack of a finishing touch in front of goal ultimately cost us the chance to draw level.

As the final whistle blew, it was a narrow defeat for Poulton FC Reserves, but the lads can take pride in their performance against a well-drilled side. There will be lessons to learn from this match, and we’ll regroup as we prepare for our next challenge.
